What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment. Instead of relying on brackets and wires, like traditional braces, Invisalign straightens your teeth and jaw with removable plastic aligners. The aligners fit snugly over your upper or lower arch and blend in with your smile. They don’t contain metal, latex, or gluten, making treatment safe for pregnant people and those with allergies.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

At Marvel Dental, Invisalign treatment begins with a review of your dental records and a discussion of your goals. Next, your provider performs an oral exam and takes digital X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

You qualify for treatment if you have healthy teeth and gums. Your provider takes digital impressions with an intraoral scanner and uploads them to a computer program. Then, they develop a custom care plan that maps the precise movements of your teeth and jaw.

After finalizing the plan, your provider sends your scans to an Invisalign lab. Techs at the lab use your scans to design and manufacture a set of custom aligners. About a week later, you return to Marvel Dental and try them on.

During treatment, you return to Marvel Dental every few weeks. At each checkup, your provider monitors your progress and provides you with a new set of Invisalign aligners. Each set places slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw, changing their position.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

The time that Invisalign treatment takes depends on your age, goals, and the alignment issues addressed. Most people achieve their desired results within 12 months*, but it may take up to 18 months or even longer. Be patient, follow your provider’s instructions, and attend each of your regularly scheduled appointments.
